This chapter of Surfing the Tsunami focuses on the current practical applications of AI, most the four A's; Autos, Advice, Automation, and Analysis. Self-driving cars seems to be the most prominent in our minds because we can often see the results of it in our everyday lives. I've personally seen some of the self-driving Google Maps cars driving around doing all of the data gathering they do.
Advice refers to AIs such as Siri or other digital assistants. It has to process voice commands which can be very complex, the identify the answer to what you are asking, and deliver an acceptable result. If any part of that process fails, people will not utilize it as it will be faster and more effective to just do it yourself.
Automation, both physical and virtual refers to duplicating some process that humans would normally do. Over time, automation has become more complex and very often far surpasses what humans can do on their own and in less time. Virtual automation is being utilized more in order to speed up data processing/management. An example of this would be a program deciding the the fastest or most efficient path to deliver a product.
Analysis is the most sophisticated form of AI as it entails processing data inputs and making a decision. A simple way of visualizing it would be a complex flow chart or maze. This is essential to simulations of scenarios.
