The forth chapter of Surfing the Tsunami discusses options for responding to AI and the eventual future that comes along with it. Those options are adapt, adopt, and adept, but the later two will be discussed in later chapters while adapt is the primary focus of this one.
Adapt refers to learning more about AI, paying attention to it, and keeping aware of where things are headed in the future. Truly gaining a firm understanding of AI requires more work and a large base of knowledge that most don't have the time or the drive to even start. Starting slow is the best way to begin understanding field with a high bar of entry so building a habit of regular research by reading articles and books is a way to establish the knowledge base needed to understand AI enough to eventually be able to be more proactive.
A good example of AI at work in your every day life that was brought up within the chapter is your phone. It gives you the illusion of control within your life but in reality, most apps installed are carefully crafted in a way to keep your engagement up by feeding you curated information or keep you in a loop to extend your regular engagement time.
